About Ticket Brokers of Connecticut

Our goal is to ensure a fair and equitable secondary ticket marketplace, with safe products and services for consumers.

We are an association of ticket brokers whose businesses operate in Connecticut. Our experience has taught us that allowing a free market to prevail in the secondary ticket industry will help Connecticut achieve a fair and equitable marketplace in many ways.

Lower Prices for Consumers

A free market will allow more ticket brokers to participate, and increased competition necessarily leads to lower prices.

Right now, only out-of-state brokers sell tickets to Connecticut events. Because the cost of doing business across state lines is higher than doing business locally, ticket resale prices are artificially high. Allowing local businesses to participate will bring costs down.

More Access to Events

When ticket resale is illegal, customers have no way to get tickets once a show is sold out (unless they buy from out of state brokers who aren't subject to Connecticut's consumer protection laws). In a free market, Connecticut brokers help eager fans get the tickets they want when they want them.

The best seats usually sell out quickly, but brokers do the work of finding all those great seats that might otherwise go unused because the original purchaser can't attend. Brokers create a system that enables someone who wants to sit in the front row the opportunity to get great seats, even at the last minute.

Stronger Economy

Throughout history, free markets have bolstered economies and improved quality of life. Setting artificial limits on resale inhibits the free market, causing product shortages and higher prices.

Competition among venues for popular acts is intense. A free ticket market means more tickets will get into the hands of the most devoted fans, which is a strong draw for concert and theatre promoters as well as sports franchises.

Brokers make the market efficient by absorbing risk when demand is uncertain. A more efficient market means lower prices and more product movement. Tickets can get to consumers faster, cheaper and more frequently when brokers increase economic efficiency.

While ticket resale is prohibited within state lines, it still happens every day online and in other states. The forces of supply and demand, as well as the history of ticket resale, indicate that this industry is inevitable because it serves an important purpose. Connecticut will be better off once we embrace this market and allow it to flourish rather than driving potential tax and other revenues to other places.

Increasing Tourism and Promoting Connecticut Cities

When brokers inside Connecticut are allowed to buy and sell event tickets, their businesses will create a new source of promotion and marketing for major events. More media exposure for local events will draw people into the state to support our venues, while simultaneously encouraging more local residents to participate in the entertainment industry.

Connecticut brokers can serve as a reliable source of group and last-minute tickets for tour operators, creating new incentives for travelers to visit Connecticut for sports, theatre and music tourism.
